Threads was an interactive piece that began with the same family photographs developed in 2014-15 for the project The Shape of Negative Space. For this project, each photograph was manipulated with white thread and scratched with sewing needles by the artist. The photographs were then presented on the wall of the artists' studio, hung by thread, to a group of 10 participants. These participants were all given one sewing needle each, with red thread, and asked to manipulate the pieces as they saw fit. The images below are scans of the final products of this exercise. This project used the act of relinquishing the image of one's body to the hands of others as a tool to explore methods of photographic self portraiture, and the weight of personal loss and memory in found images.
